I'd like to begin by saying that I love Spartanburg! I have lived here all my life, which is a long time now (over 50 years).
I realize that the title we have chosen for this event, "Hope For Spartanburg", might imply to some that Spartanburg needs help and is not doing well. However, we can look around the city and county and see beautiful sights, prospering businesses, great and hard-working people, a rich and preserved history, and much more that would be very appealing to most if not all.
But the Christian will realize the validity of a title like "Hope For ____", no matter what city's name you put there. Because in every place, there is crime. In every place, there are hurting people. In every place, there are those that aren't prospering in various ways. And most importantly, in every place, there are people, the majority of the people actually, who don't know Jesus Christ. So that's what we mean when we say "Hope For Spartanburg". We mean that our city and county need the Lord, as all do.
These meetings that will be held in Fall 2020 came out of a desire to reach the people in our own neighborhoods and communities with the Gospel. We hope to return to the same location this year that we used four years ago, which is the Beacon Drive-In. The Beacon, as most everyone who lives in Spartanburg knows, is a landmark and a part of Spartanburg's history. And its near-downtown location is perfect for everyone, of all races, social classes, etc., to feel comfortable. These events are free and open to "whosoever will", just like the Gospel itself.
I remember decades ago attending some Sunday night services in the Beacon parking lot. The services were held by First Baptist Spartanburg, and featured singing and preaching, and yes, the Beacon's famous iced tea. Those services have a special place in my memory, even though I didn't attend First Baptist. They were open to all to come and hear the Gospel and to worship in a neutral, "non-threatening" setting. I believe it's way past time that we have something like that again in Spartanburg, for those who are already in church and for those that have never darkened the door of a church, or at least have not done so for a long time.
Please visit the appropriate pages on this site to find out when the services will be held, and who will be ministering in each service.
The event is sponsored by our church's radio station, WXPS 92.1 FM, and of course, by the Beacon. By the way, my wife Nikkie and I pastor Truth Chapel World Evangelism Fellowship Church here in Spartanburg, and if you are one of the fine folks who will be attending the services and don't have a church home, we'd love to have you come worship with us at Truth Chapel.
So in closing, it is our prayer that these services will have an important impact on Spartanburg, by impacting individual lives one at a time. Please come out and be with us and hear the Word of God preached in its fullness, with no compromise. This could be the beginning of the best thing that will ever happen in your life, and I speak of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
God bless you and we will be looking for you at the Beacon this Fall!
In Christ,
Scott, Nikke, Matthew, Gabrielle, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Chloe Corbin
